Welcome to the lost state of Franklin(land)...shown is it's capital building. This new state was to be created from the western portion of colonial North Carolina in 1784. The "new land" streched from the western side of the Appalachian Mountains to the Mississippi River...some 700 miles long & 250 tall. North Carolina attempted to donate this land to a debt ridden continental congress just after the Revoluntionary War. The fledgling congress did not accept the offer (??)...hence the idea emerged to create a new state from part of this new land....just about the same time North Carolina had decided to resend its offer to congress. The Franklin legislature, led by John Sevier, "challenged the authority of North Carolina by passing laws to levy taxes, raise a militia, establish courts and open a land office". The republic of Franklin lasted about 4 years...never actually became a state and the land later became Tennessee. One birth right to the state of Franklin was David Crockett. This replica building now stands near its original site at Greeneville, TN...the capital city.

On the skirt, 3rd photo, you can see a tooling/swagging mark...I do not think this mark is from damage or from being dropped. The cavity is a paraboloidal type. About 0.57 x 0.99 inches. $18.00

Here's a relic that just came to the light of day. This pistol was excavated by a farmer, using a horse drawn plow, in the 1930/40's on a local farm. This farm has produced many relics over the years...one of the best was a period brick with a 3 ring minie'ball shot into it. H ere's a Smith & Wesson Model 1 second issue 7 shot basically an under powered 22 short cartridge...notice that there are 3 of the original cartridges left in the cylinder. Spur trigger. The brass frame has a nice aged patina with a clear serial No 21866 or 21886 stamped into it. The iron cylinder is rusted & will not move. The iron barrel is hinged to the frame in two places & one is broken. The barrel will not lock into position but will tip up showing the front side of the cylinder...showing the 3 white bullets. The hammer is made from iron & has aged better than the cylinder & barrel. The hammer also has crude serrations on it. Overall about 8 inches long. This farm had a few CS relics but was mainly a "running" camp of the 13th Tenn Vol Calvary Reg USA...these are the guys who shot & killed CS General John H Morgan.
