Bottom 1/3rd of Hotchkiss Shell

Here’s an interesting relic…the bottom 1/3 of a Hotchkiss shell. You have the base cup (complete with 3 flame grooves), a big part of the nose base (the iron nail can be seen directlt in the center of the base) & almost all of the lead sabot. The sabot has a thich white patina. Dug as one piece from a NE Tenn hill side in the 1990’s. All has been electrolysised, cleaned & coated with polyurethane. The center piece can now be easily removed from the cup…but will only fit back together in one position. Sitting still on a desk this relic looks like its still moving.

Notice the Colt 44 caliber pistol bullet that has been cleanly cut in half…from top to bottom…bottom left corner of photo.
