For your consideration one lead nipple protector for civil war rifle. You will find this protector to be in excellent dug condition. The patina is a thick, smooth white color & I do not see a single patina chip. Great detail all the way around. Seems to be a little smaller than the average protector...maybe for a 0.54 caliber rifle or smaller?? The long teat inside this protector can be easily seen...photo 1. Dug from the North Georgia area. About as nice as one of these as you will find!
On the average a civil war infantryman would have 20-40 bullets in his pouch. He would have 1, maybe 2 nipple protectors.
